Climate Change & Energy
The Republic of South-Africa and Germany have agreed to intensify their cooperation in the field of climate change and energy. The main objective is to support South Africa in securing a sufficient and environmental friendly energy supply as well as to make a contribution to the worldwide effort to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Both sides agree on the importance of the following measures in order to cope with the current power crisis on a sustainable basis:

- support energy efficiency measures,
- execute programmes in the regional cooperation of Southern Africa with its neighbouring countries especially in the field of energy and climate change,
- enhance rural access to electricity,
- strengthen skills in the energy sector,
- support programmes that directly reduce and abate greenhouse gas emissions in other sectors than energy production.
Starting point for the German-South African Cooperation on Energy and Climate will be the support given to the Green Goal programme, which shall contribute to a climate-neutral organisation of the World Cup in South Africa and a reduction of the greenhouse gas production beyond 2010.
