South Africa has come a long way since 1994 and has demonstrated extraordinary political, economic and social development. The reliable and trustworthy relationship between Germany and South Africa is an asset of great value. For many years, Germany has, in partnership with the South African government, contributed to South Africa’s development. Under the leadership of the responsible German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development the important players are:

German Development Service (DED)
The German Development Service (DED) is one of the leading European personnel secondment services with 2,000 technical advisors in 47 countries. It is committed worldwide to contribute to poverty alleviation and sustainable development.



Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit GTZ
The GTZ is an international cooperation enterprise for sustainable development, owned by the German Government. The major client is the Federal Ministry for economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ). GTZ’s corporate objective is to improve people’s living conditions on a sustainable basis.


Capacity Building International InWEnt
InWEnt is dedicated to human resource development, advanced training, and dialogue. Its capacity building programmes are directed at experts and executives from politics, administration, the business community, and civil society. It is commissioned by the German federal government to assist with the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals of the United Nations.


KfW Development Bank
On behalf of the German Government, KfW Entwicklungsbank finances investments and advisory services in developing countries. Its aim is to build up and expand social and economic infrastructure and to create efficient financial institutions while protecting resources and ensuring a healthy environment.
