DED - German Development Service
The German Development Service (DED) started working in South Africa in 1996. About 30 professional development workers are placed throughout the country. They use their expertise, social competence and commitment to support local institutions and project partners for sustainable development. DED development workers are contracted for a minimum of two years and a maximum of five years.
Latest negotiations between the Republic of South Africa and the Federal Republic of Germany have resulted in five fields of work of development cooperation:
- Local Governance and Development
- Energy and Climate
- HIV&AIDS
- Skills Development
- Support to FIFA Football World Cup 2010
DED works within the focal areas of Local Governance and Development and Skills Development in the Eastern Cape and in Mpumalanga. In these two provinces the cooperation focus has been placed on impact zones: Amathole District Municipality, Cacadu District Municipality, Chris Hani District Municipality in the Eastern Cape and Nkangala District Municipality, Ehlanzeni District Municipality in Mpumalanga.
